About Coaching

What is Coaching?

Coaching is a one-on-one relationship where the client meets on a regular basis with the coach (usually once a week), and works with the coach to achieve his or her personal goals. I coach to your strengths, not your weaknesses. We won’t be looking at your “defects” as much as we will be looking at your strengths, the qualities that you have to begin creating your life anew. You will no doubt come up against some challenges along the way, but we will only see them as stumbling blocks and not anything innately “wrong” with you. You are naturally creative, resourceful and whole just as you are, and that’s where we will start, and that’s also how we will continue to work together.

Coaching and Smoking

Coaching can be a major form of support for clients who want to become free of nicotine or to solidify their new lives after quitting nicotine. Many issues come up when people quit: how to deal with stress, how to relate to other smokers, how to deal with the emotions that had previously been blocked by smoking and begin to surface. Sometimes just trying to structure a day without cigarettes can be a challenge. All of these issues can be dealt with in coaching.

After You Quit

In addition, after one has been free of cigarettes or other forms of nicotine for a while, he or she may start looking forward again toward achieving goals in life that had previously felt impossible. Coaching helps move clients toward their goals.

What's the difference between Coaching and Therapy?

Although coaching works very well with therapy, it is not therapy. While therapy seeks to work with individuals to discover deep-seated causes and feelings, coaching works in present time with the practical factors inhibiting the client from reaching his or her goal. It deals with present time, practical goals and behaviors that the recovering cient wishes to address. The International Coaching Federation has a more extensive definition of coaching versus therapy.

Why “Treetop Coaching?”

I chose to call my business Treetop Coaching because I want to encourage my clients to reach for the top of their tree. Getting to the top means climbing up from the ground, and it can be a challenging process. But when one reaches the top of the tree, the view from there is fabulous! I want all my clients to experience life to their fullest, to have an abundant, vital, fulfilling experience “climbing to the tops of their trees.”
